The Lemonade Crime Janelle Mixner

The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies is about fourth graders going into court. The kids don't go into a real court but they went for a real reason. Scott Spencer was accused for stealing Evan and Jessie Treski's $208. On the day the money was stolen, Evan and his friends (one of them Scott) went over another one of the friends houses to go in the pool. Evan and Scott had to borrow bathing suits. The $208 was in an envelope in the pocket of Evan's shorts in the guys bedroom. Scott got out of the pool to go inside to use the bathroom. When Scott came out of the bathroom he was fully dressed and was in a hurry. Scott said he had to go and rushed off. When all of the boys got out of the pool, the envelope was gone! Monday morning, Scott got to school just in time and started talking about his new Xbox 20/20. It was the newest Xbox that wasn't even in stores yet. Scott said that he bought it with his own money. Both Jessie and Even believed that Scott stole their money and used it to buy a new Xbox 20/20. Jessie gave Scott a piece of paper that said he had to go to court. The court would take place Friday after school. If Scott was found innocent, Evan and Jessie would have to tell the whole class how they lied and that they were sorry. Even in front of the teacher! If Even and Jessie won, Scott would have to give Evan his new Xbox 20/20. All three agreed. When Friday came, they had the court and Scott was found innocent. Then Evan and Scott had a brutal basketball game and it didn't make Even feel any better. The next day Evan rode his bike to Scott's house and they were hanging out. Evan tried out the 20/20 and they seemed to be getting along. Until Scott threw a baseball and it cracked his giant TV! His dad came running down the stairs and he was mad. When Evan was leaving he said sorry and Scott did too. Scott said, "Wait," and he grabbed the envelope that had the $208 in it! Scott said sorry and Evan left. Jessie and Evan didn't have to apologize on Monday in front of everyone anymore!
