This is the book I read.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is about Harry spending his second year at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but before Harry goes, during the Summer, a house elf named Dobby appeared in his room on a night where Harry couldn't afford to get in trouble. Anyway, Dobby warns Harry and tells him that if he goes back to Hogwarts, he would be in great danger. Harry ignores this warning and goes anyway. At Hogwarts, a mysterious chamber was opened and a beast that could petrify people was unleashed into the school. During this terrifying year at Hogwarts, Harry receives a diary that belonged to a man named Tom Riddle, and whenever Harry wrote something in the diary, Tom Riddle would reply. He told Harry about the Chamber of Secrets, and how he caught the person who opend it. The he offered to take Harry to that day. When he appeared in Dumbledore's office, Harry realized that he was unable to be neither seen nor heard. The Hogwarts Harry was in was the Hogwarts Tom Riddle went to. Harry saw the whole meeting between Tom and the old Hogwarts headmaster. Apparently, Rubeus Hagrid, the gamekeeper at Hogwarts, opened the Chamber of Secrets. It was time for Harry to go into the Chamber of Secrets and stop this threat once and for all. Harry, Ron, and Gilderoy Lockhart, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, went down a pipe in the girls' bathroom into the chamber. Harry got separated from Ron and Lockhart, and had to take on the basilisk all alone. He found Ginny in a chamber, but Tom Riddle himself told Harry that she wouldn't wake up. Before Harry got the diary, Ginny had written in it for months, and Tom tricked her into opening the Chamber of Secrets. Tom Marvolo Riddle is Lord Voldemort. All of a sudden, Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes, flew into the chamber and dropped something in Harry's lap. It was the sorting hat. Tom had called the basilisk to kill Harry, but Fawkes was distracting it by flying around its head, so Harry put the sorting hat in his head and sat on the floor. Something hit Harry's head, and when he took off the hat and removed the item, he was holding a the silver sword of Gryffindor. As the basilisk lunged at Harry, he impaled the roof of the basilisk's mouth with the sword, but a fang fell out and stabbed Harry in the arm. Fawkes landed on Harry's shoulder and was crying on it. Phoenix tears provide healing powers. Then Fawkes dropped Tom's diary in Harry's lap, so he took the basilisk fang that fell out of his healed arm, and impaled the diary with it. That ended Tom Riddle, for now at least. At the end of the year, as Harry's enemy's father was taking him away, he took off his sock and through it at him, who gave it to Dobby. When house elves receive clothing from their master, they are considered free. Harry left Hogwarts for the summer before his third year at Hogwarts.
